Soup's On

Who thinks that The Boy should buy me a super awesome baby present in exchange for me carrying this monster for nine months and delivering it? I certainly do...and I think we should all begin providing him with valuable guidance and suggestions on this very important topic. Heck, he wanted a baby way more than me...I get a sweet present, right? I am glad you all agree...and now we can all devote our efforts towards convincing him of this sometime before May 4th.

More seriously, things sort of boiled over at school for Munchkin yesterday, and she was pretty torn up over it. Sophomore Girl decided to fire up the rumor mill yesterday, announcing that the reason Sophomore Boy broke up with her is because of some...um...stuff that Munchkin did with him (or rather, to him). Thankfully, Sophomore Boy demonstrated at least a little bit of admirability by putting the kibosh on those rumors. Which is good, because I'd have punched him if he didn't...lol.

But that just made Sophomore Girl madder, leading her to "accidentally" spill a bowl of tomato soup (fortunately not terribly hot soup) all over Munchkin at lunch. That actually makes me really angry because it could have been dangerous. It was towards the end of lunch, and the soup had been out and cooled for a while, but if it had come straight out of the kitchen, it potentially could have burned her seriously.

The good news is that one of the teachers was nearby and saw the whole thing unfold. I am not sure whether or not she knew the back story (she probably did, things travel fast in a small school), but she quickly pulled Sophomore Girl aside and very sternly relayed to her that this would have to stop. That is actually preferable to a formal disciplinary action from the administration in some ways because it is less likely to encourage Sophomore Girl to take further retribution against Munchkin (who still, by the way, has no idea how she ended up in the middle of all of this). Hopefully that will be the end of it, but I would have felt better if the girl somehow had reached out to apologize to Munchkin. We'll see...I figure if anything really bad happened, I would have heard about it already.

Regardless, she wasn't real happy about it last night, and was very talkative about it...I ended up falling asleep with her in her bed and sleeping there, which is about the heaviest parenting artillery that I have;-). Anyway, I am sure you are all riveted by my stories of teenage angst...lol. I will make sure to pass some hugs along...

oh my, Sophomore girl is mean! Wow! Poor Munchkin. As for the baby present, um, isn't that sort of a given? :) My husband has already been reminded by the jeweler-thank god! haha!

You definitely deserve a push present -- that really shouldn't even be a question!

Poor Munchkin, high school girls can be so mean. Glad she is handling this all so well though.

Munchkin's story reminds me of a little vendetta I had going in junior high. I can't remember why we hated each other, but we did. And one day I said something snotty to Willow at lunch. She promptly chucked her chocolate milk right down the front of my shirt. I was angry at the time, but in retrospect she did me a favor. That sleeveless red checked monstrosity I was wearing was quite hideous and its good she ruined it.

Actually, I do adore your stories about Munchkin :) She is such an amazing young woman! I can remember being amidst some teenage drama and my mother telling me it wasn't that big of a deal. To me it really was, and looking back...I still think it was! Munchkin is so very lucky to have you to love and support her :)

And hell yes...you deserve a prize for carrying that child for 9 months. The bigger the better!

I haven't picked it out yet, but I wouldn't worry too much about your baby present. Did you really think that Twin Sister would let me get away with not getting you anything at all? She'd hang me!

That is so terrible about the Sophomore Girl...what a tough age to be! She sounds like such a brat!

That evil bitch of a sophomore! Well, I dealt with this once with my older daughter when she was in middle school and held on to the info for years and still sort of hold a little grudge against the girl who sent her nasty emails, etc. And now, at age 20.5, guess who she is really good friends with? Yup. the former harasser, who matured and apologized along the way...
You might prep munchkin to say something like, " the way you talk about other people says a lot more about the quality of your character than theirs", and walk away...best said if there's an audience.
Seems to me that the sophomoron is cutting her own throat here. Might let her continue to follow that path!

Oh yeah, and the present thing? I never got one and never thought about it! I have some friends who did receive some impressive birthing baubles!
If you need more mom advice, you can always email!

Oh no, poor Munchkin! At least this will prepare for bitches in the workplace.

And yes, something in a blue box should definitely be *delivered* to you when you deliver the baby. :-)

Seeing how great you are to Munchkin, I can safely say that is one lucky baby on the way! You are going to be the greatest mom.

You mean to tell me people actually gets gifts from the hubby for having a baby???!! Why did no one ever tell me that?! I had four babies over ten year's time--two weighing in excess of 9 pounds each--and nada! :( *wondering if it's too late to get some sort of gift* Yeah, right. :D

I feel bad for Munchkin to be on the receiving end of Sophomore Girl's venom, but in a way I feel sorry for Sophomore Girl. Who knows who might have witnessed Sophomore Boy breaking up with her? Guys that age aren't always the most considerate. She must be feeling hurt and humiliated and is lashing out. "Hell hath no fury" as they say. I'm not defending her, though. She sounds like a spoiled brat who is used to having her own way. I do hope for Munchkin's sake that she won't have to feel as though she has to watch her back....and it's still only the beginning of the school year. :( Please--keep us apprised of this situation. I'm curious to know how it all gets resolved. ((((Munchkin)))
