A Friday with little content

So, turns out all I needed to bring some lurkers out of hiding was some good trashy TV talk...

Who watched the debate last night? Kind of a snooze, I thought they both looked tired. I feel like she probably won, as she usually does in these debates, but she didn't really do what she needed to do to slow his momentum. I think Donna Brazile (who is usually kind of a moron) said it very well on CNN (or MSNBC)...(paraphrasing) "She beats him on the content of her answers and on her grasp of the issues, but he connects with voters in a way she simply doesn't." That about sums it up.

I am still lukewarm on him. I question how much substance is really there. And, his cheeks puff out really weird whenever he says a word with a hard 'P' in it...lol.

Anyway, that is enough for serious stuff for a Friday. Big news out of Aaron's blog today. That sounds really exciting! I am probably not alone in saying that I have never been to Bosnia...and it is a really interesting place to take a first overseas trip.

My Jeopardy! girl is winning after the first night, I am pretty excited about that. If I recall, she has like $26,000 and the other two have like $18,000 or so. Hopefully she can bring home the victory and win this one for adorable little blond girls everywhere!

Yay! They fixed spellcheck in Blogger...I don't have to cut and paste in Word to make sure I had things spelled right:-)

It's snowing here, and we are supposed to get a pretty decent storm. The Boy and I are planning to have dinner with his parents tonight, but I am not sure whether or not that is still on. His birthday is next Tuesday, so this is kind of a birthday dinner for him and his sister:-) I am taking him out for his birthday tomorrow and I have an interesting present for him, but I can't tell you what it is! (Mostly because he reads this, and that would kinda spoil it...Hi Honey:-)).

I have a longer, marriage-related topic, but I am gonna hold it until Monday. The topic is name changes, and I have some thoughts...so you can get ready for that, and chime in ahead of time if you wish:-) I will get into more detail next week.

I WILL chime in ahead of time on the name change subject ... not that I'm engaged or even close (that usually means BEING in a relationship), but this is something that I've thought about before in general. Haha.

I think the name change thing is really dependent on each person individually. Some people are thrilled to change their name. Some people are really excited about hyphenating. Some people never want to change their name. And more power to all those women.

In reality, I don't know what I would do if I had to make that decision. I think what bothers me the most is the ASSUMPTION that the woman is absolutely giving up her name. I have a bunch of friends who have married recently and the first question they are always asked is "What is your new last name?"

It's THAT assumption that I hate (because not all of them changed their last names). I know it's "always been that way" and a tradition and blah blah .. but why? And more importantly where does the woman go? Oh hello Mr.and Mrs. John Doe. "MRS"? All you get is "MRS" out of all that?

I actually really like my last name. A lot. Not only that, but I've used my name in business for as long as I've had a career. It's even my freaking URL! (nerd). I built up whatever I have behind that name myself and as weird as it sounds I think I would have a hard time letting that go after all these years.

I think, for me personally, I'm leaning towards "no" on the name change thing. But like I said before, it's not the decision of whether or not to change the last name ... I just think it should be to each his own and don't want it assumed that I would.

Does that make any sense?

Ok I need to stop now. I typed you a NOVEL.

i don't think i've ever used spellcheck on my blog. i just leave awful spelling mistakes there hehe.

ooh name-changing. that's a good one. i kinda like the idea of keeping both - i kinda promised my dad i would been as all he had was girls and therefore no one to keep his name going ;) but if i was to marry my guy then our two names joined by a hyphen just wouldn't be pretty. And it sort of makes my belly go funny at the thought of taking his name as mine. i'm a bit of a romantic about stuff like that.

Thanks for the shout-out. I had 11 referrals to that page, but I don't know how many of them were yours. :)

Either way, about the name change thing... I guess you could go the Latino route and make him change his last name. :D
